I decided to clean my house the other day.  Not my favorite thing, to be honest.  But I was teaching a class, based on my book Becoming the Woman God Wants Me To Be: A 90-Day Guide To Living the Proverbs 31 Life.  And we were just getting to the part about household management…so I figured the very least I could do was give the place the ol’ once over.

Dusting my way through the bedroom, I noticed two candlesticks that had been sitting on my dresser for the last 26 years.  The thought occurred to me that I never lit candles on those candlesticks except maybe at Christmas.  So, as a matter of habit, I picked them up and started heading toward my garage.  I had decided, in a nanosecond, to give them away.  Along the way, I spotted a three-tiered candle holder on a bookshelf and grabbed that for good measure.  By the time I arrived at the garage door, I had an armful of stuff to give away.

I was on a roll.  Doing the one thing that has enabled me to keep my home in some semblance of order.

Then it hit me: What if Christians all over America went through their houses and gathered up stuff they didn’t need and gave it away.  What if we were intentional about it?  The idea started building.  What if Churches all over America decided to give away their excess stuff.  What if we launched…

The Great Church Giveaway.

I’ve been teaching the women in my online class to live by the motto: If you have 2 when 1 will do, give the extra one away.

"If you have two coats, give one away." (Luke 3:11)

It seems to me that lately people think the church is all about Take, Take, Take.  All churches want to do is Take your money.  I think it’s time for us, as the Body of Christ, to Give, Give, Give!  Let’s put some feet to our faith and prove to our neighbors that Christians can actually put into practice what we study in the Book.  While we’re at it, I believe God will supernaturally set us free from the "stuff-aholism" that’s crept into the church and the "stuffofication" that’s sucking the life out of our Christian lives!
