Earthquake Update from Food for the Hungry
Donna Partow traveled to Mozambique in Feb 2009 to see the work of Food
for the Hungry firsthand. She met with our staff in Beira and encouraged
them to continue pressing on in challenging circumstances. Donna also
visited the region of Gorongoza, one of the spiritually darkest places on
the continent.  People travel from other countries to meet with witch
doctors in hopes of them telling their future, healing their diseases and
casting spells on neighbors and family members who have wronged them.
Donna powerfully ministered to a group of pastors and their wives in this
region, praying for them and equipping them for spiritual warfare.
Over the past 10 days, multiple disasters have pounded Southeast Asia,
including two earthquakes in Indonesia and two powerful typhoons in the
Philippines. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost everything – their
homes either washed away or left in rubble and ruins. Food for the
Hungry, already working in Indonesia since the 2004 Tsunami and in the
Philippines since 1979, is responding to these disasters, providing
emergency relief to help families in desperate need.
Food for the Hungry’s Emergency Response
Philippines:
We are distributing food, blankets, first-aid kits, clothing and other
needed supplies. Also, we are mobilizing volunteers to provide prayer
support to affected families.
Indonesia:
We are focusing our efforts in Pariaman, the hardest hit area where few
relief workers are. We are mobilizing members of two local churches,
setting up a feeding site and purchasing a generator for pumping water.
